The sad State of Food Today

Fresh, safe, and economical produce is NOT the grocery store norm. The average head of lettuce travels 1,500 miles from farm to plate.

Contaminated food recalls are on the rise – even for organic produce. The current trend is for over 140 recalls each month which is a 72% increase in total product recalls year after year.

For the last several years, securing fresh and safe food at the local grocer has become increasingly difficult. Empty shelves are more common than ever before. This indicates just how fragile our food supply chain really is.

Inflation is pushing up transportation costs which has increased the price of produce by more than 8%. According to the USDA, food prices are expected to continue to rise above historical average in 2023.

The good news is, there is a solution to the rising concerns over food freshness, safety, availability and increasing prices… and it is easy. So easy in fact that anyone, anywhere, anytime can do it! The Good Box microgreens grow kit is the answer.

Hi There, Susan Here!

Making fresh, safe, and healthy food accessible to all people no matter where they live or how much time they have is something I am very passionate about.

One of my favorite “little” crops with BIG and lasting value is microgreens.

Microgreens are baby vegetable and herb greens that are harvested when they’re just a few inches tall.

You can easily add this flavor-packed crop to your diet in the freshest and safest way possible – by growing your own indoors, 365 days a year no matter where you live, what the weather is like, or how much gardening experience you have. Anyone can do it!

Let me tell you more about why this is the #1 crop you should be growing right now and introduce you to the best microgreens grow kit on the market!

4 Reasons to Grow Microgreens

⇒ Microgreens contain valuable nutrients: Research conducted by the University of Maryland found that microgreens have 40 times the nutrients of “true leaves” on mature plants.

⇒ Microgreens grow quickly: Many microgreens grow from seed to harvest in under 7 days making these little plants the fastest growing crop ever.

⇒ Microgreens can be grown all year long indoors: Microgreens are an all year crop that can be grown 365 days a year indoors – no matter where you live or what the weather is like.

⇒ Growing microgeens is cost effective: Purchasing microgreens in the store will cost, on average, $3.75 an ounce. When you grow them yourself it will cost an average of $.60 an ounce. That is a MASSIVE savings!!

Nutrients in Microgreens:

  • Protective antioxidants
  • Vitamins
  • Minerals
  • Enzymes
  • And a variety of other powerhouse phytonutrients

Microgreens Over Multivitamins

I tell people that growing microgreens is like growing your very own multivitamins right on your kitchen counter. When you get the nutrients you need from food, such as microgreens, your body understands what to do with it.

Supplementing with multivitamin pills is a popular pursuit but one that must be approached with caution. Many of the vitamins and supplements on the market are loaded with fillers, made with subpar ingredients and quite expensive.

Additionally, multivitamins contain high amounts of vitamins and minerals because the body does not absorb them well in supplement form. However, when you consume microgreens, the body knows exactly what to do with all of the goodness found in these plants.

Grow microgreens in 5 easy steps

Our desire was to create a simple and beautiful microgreens grow kit to quickly and affordability grow microgreens. After trying all the popular microgreen grow kits on the market, we decided something was missing and we had to figure it out!

So we began designing the perfect system.

Thomas, a talented craftsman, created prototypes based on our design. We tested these on family, friends, and clients. We finally came up with the best system for growing microgreens at home in just 5 easy steps.

Our prayers were answered, and The Good Box was born.

5 Step NO-FAIL Microgreens

Even if you’ve failed at growing microgreens before, you can master this system on the first try…guaranteed.

Here’s how it works in just 5 easy steps:

  • STEP 1

     - Step 1

Run both sides of jute mate under water. Make sure it is saturated. It will turn a dark brown color and feel heavy.

  • STEP 2

     - STEP 2

Scatter the seeds evenly over the mat and place the lid on the box. Keep an eye on the mat, don’t let it dry out.

  • STEP 3

     - STEP 3

Once microgreens have sprouted (usually 3 days or so) take off the lid and set it under the grow box. Place box where it will get plenty of natural light.

  • STEP 4

     - STEP 4

Check the mat daily and keep it wet. A light spray with the kitchen faucet works great. Rotate the box for even growth.

  • STEP 5

     - STEP 5

Harvest in 4-7 days by snipping off at mat level with clean scissors. Wipe the tray off with a clean cloth, and get ready to grow some more!

Just like that

You are done in 5 simple steps.

Now, wasn’t that easy?

It’s time to enjoy your delicious greens and start another tray!

We ship orders out within 1-3 days after receiving them. Depending on where you live in the country – orders generally arrive within one week after shipment.

Yes, seeds that contain gluten, such as barley and wheat, are gluten-free at the microgreen stage.

Because many microgreen types have high vitamin K levels, large quantities may cause issues for people taking blood thinner medication. If you take this medication, speak with your doctor before enjoying microgreens.

No. Micgroreens only need sunlight and water as they contain all they need to sprout, grow and survive.

Root hair, also called cilia, is a natural structure of the root that helps to increase surface area and reaches into the water. Sometimes it can be hard to tell the difference between mold and root hair. Here are some things to look for:

  • Root hairs are fuzzy; mold is like a spider web
  • Root hairs are not slimy; mold is
  • Root hairs have no odor; mold smells musty
  • Root hairs will disappear after rinsing and come back in a few hours; mold does not disappear after rinsing
  • Root hair is found on the root part; mold is located above the soil levels or between microgreens.
Microgreens like to rest on each other while growing; check that you have sown seeds densely enough. It might also be past time to harvest.
Microgreens that are weak and leggy may have spent too long in the dark or not gotten enough light. Yellow microgreens are expected in the blackout period since the chlorophyll in the leaves has not carried out photosynthesis. When micros are placed in the light, they will turn green.

The jute grow mat must remain wet but not soaking throughout the growing period. Do not let the mat dry out at any time. You can also spritz microgreens with a mister for additional moisture.
